Cless Analysis: Cless Alvein (Cress Albane)

The main hero of the story whom you control (story-wise anyway) most of the game. He is the father of a great swordsman, but never bested his father in swordsmanship. The story begins with him hunting with his friend Chester, until disaster struck his nearby village. Cless lost both his parents in the tragedy, swearing revenge to the cause of such tragedy. Unknown to him, his pendant was the target behind the incident. Cless is a unique hero, for he doesn't truly have special powers, but strenght and courage that makes him continue his journey and defeat his foes. Like most Tales of heroes, Cless is brave, kind-hearted, yet a bit naive.

Chester is Cless's best friend since childhood. After the incident at Totus, Chester also swore revenge, but had to stay to make proper burials for the dead. Later, when Chester caught up with Cless, he and Cless went straight to the mausoleum despite Morrison's warnings. There, they met Dhaos, the demon lord, but without hesitation, Chester charges ahead and takes a blow before Morrison helps them escape. While Chester isn't the friendliest archer, he cares deeply for family and friends on the inside.

Mint is discovered alone in a cell near Cless. She is comforted by her mother's words, but unknowingly to her, her mother is already dead, striked with a sword. In pity, Cless decides to take her with him. Mint is a beautiful healer, a good cook, and very pure. Her benevolent smile warms the whole party. Though, she does her bad moments...

Klarth Analysis: Klarth F. Lester (Clark F. Lester)

When Cless and Mint arrive at the past, they have no real power against the force upon them. In need of a magic user, they turn to Klarth for help. Klarth at first wishes for a reward in return, but his parnter Mirald successfully tricks him into helping by applying to his ego. Klarth cannot use magic like Elves can, but he uses a different method by forming pacts with Summon Spirits to summon them in battle. Klarth's wisdom of the past also is essential to the group, though he can be quite a stubborn pervert.

Arche Analysis: Arche Klaine/Klein

When the main cast first came across Arche, her father, Bart was asking them to find her as she flew through the Slyph Valley. Later on, they found her in the destroyed village of Harmel, possessed by her best friend, Ria (Rhea) Scarlet. She offered her body to Ria to have her last revenge against Demitel who killed everyone, supposedly. Arche joins the party right after the mess was cleared up, offering whatever optimistic way she has to the group. Arche is a half-elf, so she specializes in black magic and can ride on a broom wit ease.

Suzu Analysis: Suzu Fujibayashi

Suzu was a minor character in the SFC version, but became a playable character after the PSX version. The group meets Suzu in the cavern of Volt, surrounded by enemies, and trapped in traps. Later, when Cless joins a tournament, he is unexpectedly attacked by a couple of assasins working for Dhaos. No matter if you win or not (though it is more dramatic if you win the battle), Suzu steps into the arena. The couple reveal to be possesed and kill each other while quarreling a mental battle of conscious. Suzu was traumatized since the incident, but learns to forgive Cless and becomes close to the group. She is very dedicated ninja, silent and unemotional, however deep inside, she is still a child and does show signs of weakness.

Other Characters

Dhaos: The main antagonist of the story. He is a demon lord who arrived at Aselia many centuries ago, but was defeated by a group of heroes. He travels through time to escape, but returns right where another group, possibly descendants, waited, he was and sealed away by the group. This seal released two pendants. These pendants where to be kept safe by the Alvein and Adnade families. He is powerful and can only be hurt by magic spells, though his main weakness is the Indignation spell that weakened him. Though he wages war with the humans, his intentions are far more than destroying mankind...

Edward, Tornix (Trinicus) D. Morrison: The Morrison families have always been behind the incident with Dhaos. Each time period the heroes go to, there is a Morrison who is planning behind the scenes. Without the Morrisons, the group wouldn't had much of an advantage towards Dhaos, nor even be in the time traveling to begin with.

Martel: The spirit (or goddess) who represents the world tree, Yggdrasil. when she dies, so will the Yggdrasil, and all the mana of the world. At the end of the game, she gives a Mana Seed by using Dhaos's body to Derris Kharlan. She may also be a fragment of the original Martel from years ago (ref. Tales of Symphonia).

Amy Barklight: Chester's cherished little sister, and the only family he had back then. She has a large crush over Cless, and even Chester realized this. More is elaborated on their friendship in the Tales of Fandom, vol. 1. At such a young age, though, she met a tragic death by murder.

Bart Klaine: Arche's father, who married an elf. He lives near the valley of Sylph and is always wondering where Arche is flying around.

Brambard: The leader of the Elf village at Ymir. Though he distrusts humans, he has some confidence in Cless and the others. He sacrifices himself to save Arche under the curse of Arcia, a half-elf whom harbors feelings for him. Years later he is saved and Brambard makes the decision to unite the half-elves and elves, so he can be with his love Arcia.

Demitiel: The sorcerer trained under Ria's father whom betrayed their trust after being possessed by a demon.

Frio and Kyaro: The main characters of the Tales of the World: Narikiri Dungeon series, excluding the first one. Their abilities allow them to shapeshift to any Tales of character. The ToP cast are cameos in this game, as well as playable characters.

Fulein K. Lester: The main protagonist of Summoner's Lineage and Klarth's descendant. His fairy partner time travels with an artifact related to our heroes and brings them to his period to help him in his quest against the unknown menace.

Luche Klaine: Arche's real mother, who was separated from her husband, Bart during the relocation of Elves.

Mars: The knight under the kingdom of Euclid who uproared a massacre at Totus to seek the pendants. He died when he tried to control Dhaos under his will. In truth he was also under control of a demon.

Mel and Dio: The heroes of Narikiri Dungeon, whom travel to our protagonists' time periods and assist their troubles after the end of the game.

Meryl (Merril) Adnade: Mint's beloved mother, whose nuturing love still grows towards Mint's hat. It is unknown how even in death she is able to help Cless escape the cell by the Unicorn earring. Cless suddenly loses this earring, but in truth, Mint found out her mother's death by finding this earring.

Mirald: Klarth's assistant. Though she teases him often, she does has feelings for him, as does Klarth. From his journeys, Klarth takes the opportunity to use his one chance to look back in the past to check on her.

Raizen: The military head behind Alvanista's army to fight off Dhaos's minions at the Valhalla War. He is also responsible for the Mystik Cannon, which malfunctioned and destroyed the entire castle at Midgard.

Ria Scarlet: The girl whom possessed her friend Arche to get revenge on Demetiel, who killed her family and herself.

Runeglom: The elfen apprentic to the Alvanista king. He is the only connection the group has to the Ymir Forest Elves.

Unicorn: The magical white horse whom only gives his horn to a pure maiden. When Mint approaches him, he does not find her worthy until a group of monsters attack. The unicorn, sees Mint's kindess, and with his last energy,gives her his horn. The advanced magic allows Mint to heal the Yggdrasil.

Valkyrie: The Norse being whom carried the lost souls to Valhalla. She may also be a cameo from Namco's Valkryie no Densetsu series. She rides Odin's Slepnir and recieves Odin's Gungnir that Cless held, though in exchange for a ride on the multi-legged horse...
